FUN FEST

FUN FEST was another new programme launched in 2008 to support and compliment the work with the kids through the camps programme.

The FUN FEST programme incorporates all non residential kids activities. It will include the January Camps Reunion Day, Kids and Families Christmas Party and activities each month. FUN FEST has been designed so that we can offer more programmes to the kids and families we work with as well as being more flexible with the activities we run.

In April 2008 we ran the first FUN FEST ‘Day Camps’. This involved running activities at Trinity College and the Perth Zoo over two days for the children aged 8 - 11 years old. Most of the children involved were attending an Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA activity for the first time, which gave them a sense of what it is like to be a part of Eddie Rice Camps, give them a chance to work with volunteers, participate in activities run on camps and generally just have fun. This beginning of FUN FEST was very successful with 15 kids and 14 volunteers attending over the two days. In the October school holidays we held another three FUN FEST days for children not participating in the October camp. Once again these were a success with 15 Kids and 8 volunteers involved.

December saw the traditional Kids & Families Christmas Party take place for the first time under the FUN FEST banner. As always this was a wonderful day of fun, laughter and Christmas spirit, held in Kings Park with 61 kids and families and 22 Volunteers involved.

With more financial support and volunteer participation it is envisaged that in the years ahead the FUN FEST programme could begin to run monthly weekend activities in local areas to cater for the needs of the kids and families in those areas.

With limited time available to expand our Camps programme, the FUN FEST programme represents an opportunity to continue the growth of our services to kids and families in need. With increased volunteer support the FUN FEST programme has the ability to grow to meet these expanding needs.
