WHAT'S REQUIRED TO BE A VOLUNTEER
VOLUNTEERS CAMP LEADERS Becoming involved in Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA is easy! To become involved all you need to do is download the ‘New Leader Registration Form’ from the ‘Volunteers - Forms’ section of the website, and submit it to the ERCKWA Office. Then you will be contacted about your interest and availability. Alternatively you could call the office and speak to Ash or Kellie about how you can help out.
In addition ALL volunteers must go through a stringent screening process. This involves completing TWO Recommendation Forms ( filled out by a non-relative in a position of responsibility, who can vouch for you; as well as obtaining a Working with Children Check (18yrs +) as required by West Australian law (see LINKS).
Following your registration and screening, you will then be required to attend the Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA Pre-Camp Training programme prior to being involved in any ERCKWA camps or activity.
TRAINING
Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA provides extensive training to all volunteers. Prior to going on camp you will be involved in a variety of training that looks at your role as a camp leader, orientation of ERCKWA, important policies and procedures, and issues of Child Protection, safety and welfare.
You don’t need any specific qualifications in order to become a volunteer, just an open mind and a willingness to have fun.
Currently there are FOUR units of training for volunteers involved in Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA programmes and activities. Prior to attending your first camp, volunteers are required to attend:

Unit 2: Policies & Procedures

Unit 3: Safety & Welfare
This unit looks at areas and policies of child protection, safety and welfare. Using some content from Protective Behaviours training, volunteers explore child protection safety guidelines and understand the ways of creating a physically and emotionally safe environment for kids and volunteers.
In addition Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA has an additional Refresher Training unit that volunteers must complete every 12 months. This ensures that all volunteers attending camps have had some form of training each year. The Refresher unit focuses on specific areas of training, such as behaviour management, working with kids with disabilities, cross-cultural training etc.
Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA also provides you with opportunities to gain skills in First Aid and Bronze Medallion training.
